Blog #130: Dedicated to Subedar Neeraj Chopra!

Tokyo Olympics 2020 just came to an end and a fairly successful one considering so many uncertainities surrounding the Games due to COVID

Indian team had some great moments right from Day one when we won a Silver medal thanks to the heroics of Mirabai Chanu and also had some heartbreaks in between but the best was reserved for the last day when Subedar Neeraj Chopra won the Gold in the Javelin event and made this a memorable event for a billion plus people including yours truly

Here's a small Mathematical tribute for the Golden Boy of Javelin revolving around the magic number 8758 (87.58 metres was the winning throw!). 8758 has some special qualities compared to its peers and here are a few

a) 87 and 58 are successive multiples of 29 (multiples of 3 and 2)

b) His birth year is 1997 - 19 + 97 is 116 which is again a multiple of 29 (4 times)!

c) One of the anagrams of 8758 turns out to be 8758 again!

d) 87 + 5 + 8 is a perfect 100 and I am sure that would be his next target in 2024 Olympics!

e) Multiply all the digits and we get 2240. Anagram of 2240 is 2024 and we wish another Gold from Neeraj in Paris!

f) Add all the digits of 8758 till you reach a one digit number - 8 + 7 + 5 + 8 is 28, 2+ 8 = 10. 1+ 0 = 1. Needless to say he is the Numero Uno now!

Coincidentally I happen to share the birthday with the Subedar and feel chuffed about it!
